Anonymous asked: What do you think about taking birth control for medical reasons? I have started taking them this past year to help get my hormones back into balance as well as to ease period symptoms. I'm not sexually active, but the benefits of the pill have really made my life a lot easier (especially being able to actually attend classes). Any thoughts?

birth control is absolutely necessary for some people. i actually should be on it because i have a low diagnosis of PCOS, but my body didn’t react well to the hormones, so i went off of it. there seems to be some hesitation in the conservative religious spheres when it comes to taking birth control if you aren’t married - as if being on the pill necessarily implies that you’re sleeping around. if that’s what’s bothering you, don’t worry about it. take your doctor’s advice unless it doesn’t sit right with you in your gut, and consider visiting a natural doctor. there are several things that help the reproductive system maintain balance (coconut oil, valerian, uva ursi, eating more alkaline/less acidic foods, etc), particularly hormone treatment. i do know that birth control can have negative long-term health effects if taking for several years.
